Self-Care During COVID-19
We recognize this is an incredibly stressful, rapidly evolving and complicated time. Given the current global health crisis, the Ascend Team is committed to doing all we can to continue to provide emotional support, foster interpersonal connection while physically distancing and sustain hope. We are stronger together.
Below are a few ideas to help in Self-Care during this evolving time.
CONNECT
Meet a friend for a Facetime coffee date
Send 1 text a day, telling someonewhat you appreciate
about them.Call or write your grandparents.
Compliment a friend on a recent accomplishment.
Host a virtual watch-party of a live-streamed concert.
Keep the routine, when possible. Friday- night book club scheduled? Make it a group chat!
Write a letter to nieces, nephews or other young people in your life. They’ll be thrilled to get their own mail!
NOURISH
Share a meal over FaceTime with someone supportive if you need some encouragement.
Cook or bake a new recipe with a roommate or family member.
Eat regularly (according to your meal plan if you have one!). Even though you’re not out and about, your body still needs fuel.
Curl up with a hot drink and your favorite book.
PLAY
Bone health may be compromised under some health conditions and especially those conditions characterized by a dramatic change in general health status, hormone related health, and/or rapid or dramatic weight loss:
Check out children’s books to read from the library. (If your local library is closed, check out the ebook or audiobook versions.)
Watch your favorite movies from when you were a kid.
Have your own spa day: paint your nails, make your own lip scrub, deep condition your hair, put on a face mask.
Color a message in side-walk chalk for neighbors walking by.
Make a bucket list of things you want to do or see in 2021.
Dance to your favorite song.
Curate playlists on Spotify for different moods/ seasons/ occasions.
Do a puzzle.
Color, draw, or collage.
Watch an episode of Tidying Up on Netflix to inspire you and then clean out your closet or another area of your home that you’ve been wanting to tackle.
GROW
Journal. What have you been learning lately? What has been good? What has been hard? What are you thankful for?
Take a virtual museum tour.
Practice meditating.
Learn a new hobby. Always wanted to know how to knit? Order some needles and yarn and cue up the YouTube videos.
Listen to a podcast or audiobook.
